PROFILE__ David Gussin of 516Ads.com
As its name suggests, 516Ads.com/631Ads.com, the subscription-based online directory covers the Long Island area cleverly incorporating Long Island’s two area codes in its title. The goal of this resource according to President David Gussin is to “ignite business and goodness.”
The passionate owner began the company on July 20, 2007 with a vision and a simple logo that said, “Coming Soon.” As the company approaches its ninth anniversary, it can definitely be said that he has managed to accomplish what he set out to do. Tagged as Long Island’s Business/Community Network, 516Ads (as it is commonly referred to) brings together advertising, networking and community spirit. This successful blending of business and community must be attributed to Mr. Gussin who infuses every aspect of everything he does with his infectious personality. Highly motivated and energetic, he gives 100% to all his endeavors and inspires those around him to do likewise.
He spearheads regular networking events, hosting morning seminars for fellow entrepreneurs who gather together on a consistent basis to both maintain their motivation levels and to make new contacts. Evenings, he facilitates get-togethers for business owners to meet and greet one another in a relaxed setting. The consummate connector, David is well known by networkers in Nassau as well as Suffolk County. No small feat but is easily understood when one considers exactly how Mr. Gussin goes about his business.
He understands the importance of interpersonal communications and makes it a point to engage in one-on-one contact with a prospective client whenever possible. In the age of facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, though 516Ads is Web-based, David recognizes that social media is merely a tool and treats it as such. He is a staunch believer in the good old-fashioned habit of picking up the phone and talking to a client, a practice that guarantees him a high close percentage.
His business skill and work ethic are nothing new. Back in the early 1980’s, while working at a small pizza shop, he came up with the idea to create the now popular “Everything Bagel.” (Unfortunately, he did not patent the name.) Today, he is still creating, albeit ventures of a different nature. Out of his commitment to business was born 516Ads/631Ads.com, the affordable advertising and promotion network and out of his desire to foster goodness, he created LEARN, his personal offering to an alternative to racism. The aptly lettered acronym stands for Let’s End All Racism Now. Aware that one man and one crusade can never eradicate such a deeply ingrained social ill, he offers LEARN as a vehicle to teach “an opposite to racism.”
For his efforts both in business and community, Mr. Gussin has been the subject of numerous media spotlights and the recipient of many awards, among them a commendation via The Hispanic Network where he was honored as one of 12 “Long Islanders Who Make a Difference.” But it is the award by the Hempstead Boys’ and Girls’ Club that makes him the most proud.
Whether he is hosting an event, greeting a client or connecting professionals, one thing is certain, wherever he finds himself, David Gussin is not only igniting business but he is also promoting goodness everywhere.
